A Week in Brno

Freelance life has one major benefit aside from being able to wear pyjamas for the majority of the day and being free from the shackles of a bra: I can work wherever I want. This is why I’ve been able to travel as much as I have in the last six months, and why I have been able to escape London for a week and spend some time in Brno in the Czech Republic, where my boyfriend is currently based.

I’ve written a little word on how I spend my time when I visit Brno, including some of my favourite places to visit!

Where I work:

When I’m not sticking to the pyjamas and dirty hair freelance life, I head to a small cafe up the road called Le Petit Cafe. Not only does it have wifi, but it also has an excellent cappuccino and a solid cake selection. The cheesecake is my go-to if it is on offer, and they always cut a generous slice, which I appreciate. It is a super quiet cafe with comfortable chairs and makes for a great working environment.

Where I eat:

One of my favourite things about Brno is the fact that there is a restaurant dedicated to the life of drugs kingpin Pablo Escobar. Not the first person you would think of as inspiration for a restaurant, but there you go. It even has the tagline “I built own prison. Now I have own bar”, referring to the prison that Escobar built for himself. Of course. They offer some really great cocktails and a decent burger which makes for a great evening, and obviously lots of bizarre Pablo Escobar-themed merchandise and a Medellin-inspired decor.

Brno is also home to a great Vietnamese market, where you can go and sample some spring rolls and a large bowl of Pho to warm you up during the colder months. It’s a short bus ride from the centre of town and makes for a perfect lunchtime trip on the weekend. I go for vegetable spring rolls followed the huge bowl of beef Pho that I always fail to finish. It’s great for authentic Vietnamese food, and they have shops so you can stock up on spices and other ingredients while you’re there.

This post is pretty much entirely about where I eat and drink because that is the defining feature of any trip I make, especially when I visit Brno, so I hope you enjoyed this foray into my recent week in Brno.
